South Plainfield is a town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It is included as part of the Greater Metuchen area and it has an estimated population of 8,949 people. South Plainfield was founded in 1869 by John A. Russell who wanted to start a new settlement on his estate that he had purchased from James Searing IV’s wife Margaret Woodruff Searing.
