5 Steps in Organizing Your Cabinets

5 Steps in Organizing Your Cabinets

Is your tupperware falling out every time you open the cabinet door? Do you have to spend five minutes looking for the right lid? Or maybe it’s time for new cabinets all together. If your kitchen cabinets are in need of a serious organizational makeover, don’t despair—a little planning and elbow grease is all it takes to get them shipshape. Here are our top tips for cabinet organization:

1. Empty Everything Out

The first step to organizing your cabinets is to empty them out completely. This may seem like a daunting task, but it’s the only way to really assess what you have and what needs to be done.

At this point, you can put it anywhere. On the table. On the counters. Even on the floor if it’s freshly cleaned. Just get it all out so you can see what you have to work with.

Once everything is out, you can sort through your belongings and get rid of anything that’s no longer useful or that you don’t use often. This is also a good time to wash any dirty items and put them away clean.

This is also the perfect time to check expiration dates and toss any food that’s past its prime. This will help free up space and also ensure that you’re not eating anything that’s no longer safe.

2. Clean the Cabinets

Now that the cabinets are empty, it’s time to give them a good cleaning. Remove any dust or grease buildup with a damp cloth or all-purpose cleaner. If your cabinets are particularly grimy, you may need to use a strong degreaser.

Be sure to clean the cabinet doors, shelves, and hardware as well. Once everything is clean, dry the surfaces with a clean towel.

3. Measure the Space

Before you start putting things back in the cabinets, it’s important to measure the available space. This will help you determine what items can go where and how best to utilize the space.

If possible, it’s helpful to make a sketch of your kitchen with the measurements included. This will give you a reference point as you start putting things back in the cabinets.

4. Choose Your Storage Solutions

Now it’s time to decide what you’re going to use to store all of your belongings. There are a variety of options available, from specialized Tupperware containers to simple plastic bags.

You’ll also need to decide how you want to organize your belongings. For example, you may want to keep all of your pots and pans in one place or you may want to divide them up by type.

5. Put Everything Away

Once you’ve decided what storage solutions you’re going to use, it’s time to put everything back in the cabinets. Start with the items that you use most often and work your way down to the items that you use least.

If you have children, it may be helpful to put their dishes and silverware in an easily accessible place. This will make it easier for them to get their own meals and snacks without making a mess.

Reorganization can do wonders for your kitchen cabinet space. However, if your cabinets are outdated or rundown, it might be time for an upgrade. Contact our team today if you’re looking for kitchen remodeling in Swedesboro, NJ!
